10 Bad Home Accessories You Should Never Buy

Certain home accessories should be left at the store when you are decorating, or staging your home. Let's take a look at what is considered in my opinion - to be the most offensive decor-ruiners.

1.) A 6 foot silk ficus tree from a craft store.

2.) Mass produced art that you see over and over again in every store.

3.) Pillows too big for the seating you are buying them for.

4.)Anything you would consider putting on top of your kitchen cabinets.

5.) An area rug just right for the width of the cocktail table rather than the conversation area.

6.) A large Plain Jane framed mirror for over a fireplace mantle or sofa.

Why not the Ficus tree. I love to use silk plants, as long as they are good quality. I think it adds some color and "life" to a room.

Donna, You nailed it on the head - "As long as they are good quality."

I was really curious to see if we (you and I) agreed on what NOT to buy as an accessory and I must say, the only one that I hadn't thought of was a moose or bear accent(?)I've come across angel items before but not moose or bear. At least I'm on the right track if I haven't considered "using" them as accents LOL. You asked what's on our "hit List" when accessory shopping and since I've been doing a lot of bathroom redesigns it has been style-appropriate mirrors, decorative hand soap dispenser and hand towel hook (or ring). Thanks for posting Julea

@LimeLight Interiors: I want to add plaster Romanesque columns in corners of your rooms with floral arrangement toppers.

I also wondered about the ficus tree, but understand what you’re saying about the quality :>) I also have a piece of art I was given that looks identical to the flower one you showed -- I’ve never used it, and think I will now donate it to a garage sale a friend is having soon!

I would also add all the signs you see, such as "gone to Walmart" or "men are better Rich" kind of thing!
